Homers, McLeod Spur UCO Past Aggies

EDMOND (Feb. 9) – JoBi Heath and Halley Randolph belted home runs in helping stake Central Oklahoma to a big early lead and the Bronchos went on to topple Cameron 8-4 Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Raising Cane's Softball Festival.

UCO was up 8-0 after three innings before the Aggies scored all four of their runs in the fourth against starting pitcher Sydney McLeod, who settled down after that to finish off the complete-game win.

The Bronchos, who beat Southern Nazarene 11-8 in Saturday's first game, return to action Sunday at 4 p.m. against Texas Woman's before playing Colorado-Colorado Springs at 1 p.m. and East Central at 3 p.m. Sunday to finish the three-day event.

"We picked up two good wins today," head coach Cody White said.  "We came up with some clutch hits and I thought our pitching was pretty good."

McLeod struck out seven and walked one in going the distance.  Randolph went 3-for-4 at the plate to the offense, while Heath added two hits.

Cameron threatened in its first of bat of the game after putting runners on second and third with one out, but McLeod got of the jam with a strikeout and easy fly out.

The Bronchos pushed across five runs in the bottom of the first on Heath's three-run blast and Casady Webb's two-run single.

Bailey Thompson drew a one-out walk to get things started and Randolph followed with a single up the middle before Heath smoked a line-drive over the center field fence for the 30th homer of her sensational career.

Back-to-back errors put two more runners on and Webb drove in both of those with a single through the left side to make it 5-0.

Central used the long ball to extend its lead in the second.  Puempel walked to lead off the inning and Randolph came through an out later with a rocket shot over the left field wall that upped the advantage to 7-0.

It became an 8-0 cushion in the third when Allie Eicher led off with single to right field, went to second on a walk and third on a fielder's choice before scoring on Puempel's groundout.

The Aggies scored four two-out runs in the fourth with the help of a pair of UCO errors to get within 8-4, but McLeod shut Cameron down after that to finish off the win.
