UCO Rolls Over No. 1 Rambelles

EDMOND (Feb. 26) – Sydney McLeod slowed down top-ranked Angelo State's high-octane offense and JoBi Heath drove in four runs to power No. 19 Central Oklahoma to a 10-2 run-rule rout of the Rambelles Tuesday afternoon.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled by cold, drizzly weather but not before the Bronchos made a statement with their 10th straight win.  UCO is off to the best 15-game start in school history at 14-1.

"That was a great win for us," head coach Cody White said.  "It was really cold out there, but our girls didn't let that bother them and they were really focused.  Sydney threw well and we came up with a lot of big hits."

ASU entered the day averaging 9.4 hits and 8.5 runs per game, but McLeod gave up just four hits and two runs in the five-inning contest.  The junior left-hander walked two and struck out seven in improving to 7-1 and escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the first inning with back-to-back strikeouts.

All nine UCO starters had one hit in the game, which ended in the bottom of the fifth when Allie Eicher was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

The Bronchos broke on top 1-0 in their first at bat when Hazel Puempel drew a lead-off walk, went to second on Bailey Thompson's sacrifice bunt, took third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

A two-run homer gave ASU a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, but Central answered right back with four runs in the bottom of that frame to move ahead for good.

Lexy Dobson had the big blow with a two-run double to right-center, while Eicher had an RBI double to right-center and Casady Webb a run-scoring single to right.

The Bronchos extended their lead to 8-2 in the fourth.  Thompson started things with a single up the middle, Randolph followed with a bunt single and Heath cleared the bases with her 31st career homer, this one a long fly just inside the left field foul pole.

UCO ended it in the fifth with a pair of runs, the first one coming in on Heath's sacrifice fly before Eicher was nicked by an inside pitch to force Thompson across.

The Bronchos return to action Friday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian.
