Central Oklahoma Stumped By Missouri Southern

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped its third straight game Sunday afternoon, falling to Missouri Southern 5-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos are now 6-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play. It's the first sweep of UCO at home since April of 2016.

"Missouri Southern is a good team and they deserve the credit," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "They have good pitching and they put the ball in play. We couldn't do that today, or all weekend for that matter. They beat us. We need to move on and get better."

Gabe Littlejim is now 1-2 on the season after taking the loss. He threw five innings Sunday, allowing seven hits and all five MSSU runs. He did strike out eight batters.

Landon Bond, Ty Medina, and Josh Rutland combined to put together a good relief effort on the day for the Bronchos. MSSU managed only one hit off of Bond, who struck out two. Rutland also struck out one in his inning of work.

But the Bronchos couldn't string together any hits. UCO scattered just four hits on the day. Philip Scott, Kyle Crowl, Dru Barrier, and T.K. McWhertor each had one and none of them came consecutively.

Central Oklahoma left eight runners on base Sunday.

The Bronchos will return to action after a day off on Monday. UCO takes on Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before beginning another MIAA series with Northwest Missouri next weekend.
