Bronchos Rip Rangers

EDMOND (Feb. 17) – Another quick start led to another lopsided rout for streaking Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Raising Cane's Softball Invitational.

The Bronchos pushed across 10 runs in their initial at bat to continue an early-season trend that has seen them outscore their opponents a staggering 77-21 in the first three innings and went on to annihilate Northwestern Oklahoma 15-3 for their ninth straight win.

"Getting off to a good start is really important to us and we've done a great job of that," said head coach Cody White, whose team improved to 13-1.  "I love the attitude of this team and the way they come to play every day.  It's early and we've still got a lot of things to improve on, but I like the direction we're going."

UCO banged out 12 hits against the Rangers, with Hazel Puempel, Bailey Thompson and JoBi Heath collecting two each.  Heath had two doubles and four runs batted in to cap off a day that saw the senior star go 6-for-6 with five doubles and six RBI in two wins.

Lauren Gibson picked up the pitching victory, allowing three hits and three runs in the first four innings before Abbey Rumbaugh finished out the run-rule romp in the fifth.

Central sent 14 batters to the plate in the first and turned five hits, four walks and three errors into its huge 10-run outburst.

Puempel got things off to a quick start with a lead-off double to right-center field, consecutive walks loaded the bases and Heath's sacrifice fly that was dropped for an error started the scoring onslaught.

Casady Webb had a two-run single while Heath, Thompson and Carli Jones added RBI hits in the inning.

NWOSU scored once in the top of the third, but the Bronchos countered that in the bottom of the inning when Heath roped a two-run double to left field to make it 12-1.

The Rangers got their final two runs in the fourth and once again UCO answered, scoring three runs on three extra base hits in its final at bat.

Lexy Dobson led off with a triple to right-center and scored on Allie Eicher's double to right, with Puempel's RBI single and Thompson's triple down the right field line upping the lead to 15-3.

Central doesn't play again until hosting No. 6-ranked Angelo State Feb. 26 to end an 11-game homestand.
