UCO Bulldozes Bulldogs

EDMOND (Feb. 16) – Bailey McKittrick had the second strong pitching outing of the day for Central Oklahoma while Allie Eicher and Carli Jones both belted home runs as the streaking Bronchos walloped Southwestern Oklahoma 10-1 Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Raising Cane's Softball Invitational.

McKittrick gave up just two hits in the five-inning run-rule rout, which followed a complete-game four-hitter by Sydney McLeod in a 3-0 shutout of Newman in UCO's first game.  The Bronchos moved to 11-1 with their seventh straight win.

Eicher and Jones both went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in to highlight a 12-hit offensive attack.  Lexy Dobson went 3-for-3 and Bailey Thompson also had two hits.

"We got great pitching in both games and our bats came alive against Southwestern," said head coach Cody White, whose team had just five hits in the win over Newman.  "It was really cold out there, but our players didn't let it bother them and they just took care of business."

UCO seized control early, breaking loose for five runs on six hits – including four doubles – in the bottom of the first.

Hazel Puempel led off the inning with a double to center field and scored the first run on Halley Randolph's one-out double to left-center.  The rest of the runs came on consecutive two-out hits by Jones, Dobson, Eicher and Casady Webb.

The Bronchos added an unearned run in the third to make it 6-0, with SWOSU getting their lone run in the top of the fourth with a homer.

UCO answered back emphatically in the bottom half of that inning.

JoBi Heath was hit by pitch to start the fourth, then Jones blasted a moon shot over the right field fence for her third homer of the season.  Dobson followed with a single through the left side and Eicher cranked a line drive to center field for her first homer of the year to make it 10-1.

The Bronchos are back in action Sunday, hosting Colorado-Colorado Springs at 11 a.m. and Northwestern Oklahoma at 3 p.m.
