UCO Rolls Past Pioneers

CONROE, Texas (Feb. 1) -- Bailey Thompson went 3-for-3 at the plate and JoBi Heath smacked a three-run home run to lead Central Oklahoma to a 13-3 trouncing of Texas Woman's in the first game of the season-opening Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational Friday morning.

The Bronchos erupted for six runs in the top of the first to take early command, added three in the second and finished with a four-run outburst in the fifth en route to ending the game early on the eight-run rule. UCO is back in action at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M International.

Central finished with 14 hits, with Thompson's 3-for-3 performance leading the way. Heath, Halley Randolph, Hazel Puempel and Lexy Dobson all had two hits apiece.

Freshman Bailey McKittrick had an impressive pitching debut for the Bronchos, giving up just three hits in four shutout innings to earn the win.

Puempel had both her hits in the first inning to ignite UCO's early onslaught. The junior lead-off hitter started the game with a single and ended up scoring the game's first run on Thompson's base hit before adding an RBI single later in the inning.

Dobson also had a run-scoring walk and Brighton Gilbert an RBI fielder's choice in the frame, with three TWU errors leading to two more runs and a quick 6-0 lead for the Bronchos.

Dobson and Casady Webb delivered run-scoring singles and Carli Jones added an RBI fielder's choice in the second to extend the cushion to 9-0 before Central finished its scoring in the fifth.

Thompson led off that inning with an infield single, Randolph followed with a hit to left field and Heath cleared the bases with the 29th homer of her fabulous career. Tori Ritz had a pinch-hit single and later scored on an error to make it 13-0.

The Pioneers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't nearly enough to extend the game.
