UCO Rolls Over Hornets

EDMOND (Oct. 4) – Regan Inglis led a block party that carried Central Oklahoma to a rousing sweep of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Emporia State Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

Inglis had four assisted blocks and two solo rejections as the Bronchos finished with a season-high 11.0 blocks in claiming a 25-22, 25-18, 25-15 victory. UCO limited the Hornets to minus-.016 hitting in improving to 12-4 overall and 4-2 in the league.

"Our defense was pretty good tonight and we needed that," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We weren't great offensively, but made up for that with our blocking and that was the key to the match."

Inglis was one of six players to record at least one assisted block. Chloe Hancock had three assisted blocks and one solo, while Courtney Lane (two assisted, one solo), Amanda Desch (two assisted), Lauren Jenkins (two assisted) and Bailey Combs (one assisted) also got in the act.

Desch led the team in kills with nine to go along with 16 digs and 11 assists. Combs and Jenkins had seven kills apiece and Lane five, while Dominique Lipari had a match-high 17 digs.

The first set was nip-and-tuck from the beginning and featured 14 ties and four lead changes. Inglis' solo block broke the final deadlock in giving UCO a 20-19 lead and the Hornets had four unforced errors the rest of the way.

It was close again in the second set until the Bronchos got back-to-back kills from Lane and another from Desch in breaking away from a 14-all tie, with Jenkins adding three kills down the stretch to close out the set.

UCO then took control early in the third set and cruised in to polish off the sweep.

The Bronchos are back home Saturday night, hosting No. 5-ranked Washburn at 7 p.m.
