Heath, Chestnut Lead UCO Rout

EDMOND (Feb. 15) – JoBi Heath socked a pair of two-run home runs and Jayden Chestnut dominated in the pitching circle after a tough start as Central Oklahoma hammered East Central 12-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Chestnut retired the last 14 batters she faced after giving up a walk and two-run homer in the top of the first inning to put the Bronchos in an early hole.  Heath's first homer tied the game in the bottom of the first and she went deep again in an eight-run third when UCO broke the game open.

It was the third straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 7-3.  Central is back in action Saturday, hosting near-by Oklahoma Christian for a doubleheader starting at noon.

"Jayden got off to a little bit of a slow start, but she really pitched well after the homer and completely shut them down," head coach Cody White said.  "It was good to see our offense come through like that.  We hit the ball hard and it's always good to see the ball leave the yard like it did with JoBi and Halley (Randolph)."

Randolph went 3-for-3 to lead UCO's 11-hit attack, capping that with a two-run homer in the fourth.  Heath added her two homers and Morgan Heard drove in three runs.

ECU's first-inning homer was the only hit allowed by Chestnut, who struck out three and needed just 48 pitches to move her record to 5-1.  It was the second one-hitter of the young season for the junior right-hander and the seventh of her two-year UCO career.

The Tigers' 2-0 lead was brief as Heath plated the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the first over the fence in straightaway center field to score Heard, who had reached on a two-out fielder's choice.

Heath put the Bronchos ahead in the third when the junior slugger followed Heard's one-out walk with a long bomb to left field for the 25th homer of her career and UCO added six two-out runs in the inning to take control.

Heard's three-run double to right-center field was the big blow, while Carrie Abrams and Carli Jones had run-scoring singles and Bailey Thompson an RBI walk.  Heath came up with a chance at a single-game school-record third homer, but came up short on a fly ball to right for the third out.

The Bronchos pushed the cushion to 12-2 in the fourth when Allie Eicher led off with an infield walk and Randolph crushed a one-out homer to center.
