Bronchos Stormed By SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team fell to 10th-ranked Southern Nazarene on Thursday night 93-63 in the final of three road games to begin the season. The Bronchos will open the doors to Hamilton Field House Saturday against Southwestern Christian.

"It's a tough loss but hats off to SNU for playing a solid game." UCO head men's basketball coach Tom Hankins said. "We need to get back in the gym and correct our problems and get ready for the next one."

The Bronchos (2-1) had the lead up to nine minutes, but couldn't get the shots to fall.

UCO made only 8-of-28 shots in the first 20 minutes – including just 1-of-13 from 3-point range – in falling behind 35-23 and the Bronchos trailed by as many as 18 in the second half.

Jaylan Williams led the Bronchos with 15 points, four rebounds, and went 3-for-9 from three. Adarius Avery had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Holliday added nine points and Cooper Clark, eight.

UCO ended up shooting 37 percent (22-for-59) for the game, including 24 percent (6-for-25) from three point range. The Bronchos shot 72 percent (13 of 18) from the free-throw line, while SNU shot 81 percent (9 of 11).

UCO had their biggest lead of the game when Holliday knocked in two free-throws making it 15-10 with 10 minutes left in the first half. The lead was lost just a few minutes later when UCO turned it over and SNU found a 17-15 lead.

The Bronchos knocked down three 3-point shots late in the game, but it just wasn't enough to catch up.

UCO continues their season on Saturday with their home-opener against Southwestern Christian in Hamilton Field House at 3:30 p.m. It will be just one of three home games for the Bronchos in the 2018 portion of the new season.
