UCO Whips Southwestern

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team whipped Southwestern Oklahoma State 114-82 on Saturday afternoon in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association – Great American Conference Crossover Challenge at the Tahlequah Event Center.

The Bronchos came out strong against the Bulldogs and kept the lead the entire game. They led by as many as 32 in the first half before settling for a 30-point lead at the half.

"I'm proud of the guys today and happy with the outcome." UCO head coach Tom Hankins said after the game, "It was good to get two wins under the belt on the road and glad that we fought hard and executed."

UCO was led by senior Josh Holliday for the second day in a row with an outstanding performance. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native hit 10-for-16 from the field, marking up 28 points on the day. He also had three assists and two steals.

"I'm really proud of Josh for starting his senior season well. It's good to have leaders like him." Hankins said.

Dashon Bell and Ashford Golden each had 17 points on the day. Adarius Avery also had 16 points and seven rebounds. It's the second win for the Bronchos in as many days to open the season. Central beat Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday and had five players reach double figures before four did so Saturday afternoon.

UCO shot 56.5 percent from the field Saturday and 50 percent from three-point range. They also went 21-23 from the free-throws, with a 91.3 mark.

Marquis Johnson had a team high for the day in assists with six. Jordan London was right behind him with five.

Central Oklahoma had a quick back-and-forth with the Bulldogs Saturday before Holliday hit his first 3-pointer of the afternoon to give the Bronchos an 8-6 lead. After another tie moments later, another Holliday 3-pointer gave Central an 11-8 lead and it didn't look back.

The Bronchos went on a 12-0 run in less than four minutes to go up 22-8 in the first half. It was all Central after that.

UCO is on the road again for their next game against 10th-ranked Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
