Bronchos Drop Second Match In Texas

COMMERCE, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team lost 2-1 to 15th-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday afternoon, falling for the second time in three days to open the 2017 season.

The Bronchos were shutout 3-0 on Friday against Angelo State. UCO looked ready to respond Sunday, getting an early shot on goal from Asha Haile before Kelsey Gordon scored her first career goal in the 31st minute. UCO's 1-0 lead in the match lasted about 12 minutes before Commerce equalized just before the half. Commerce then took a 2-1 lead just after the half and held that lead for the remainder of the afternoon.

"We started out strong on offense," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "But again, our defense wasn't where it needs to be. We'll learn from this, and try and correct it when we get back home before next weekend."

The Bronchos again went with freshman Kaitlyn Asher in goal. The Bixby, Okla. native made four saves in her debut Friday in 90 minutes of action. She played a full 90 again Sunday and made six saves.

UCO's offense put up just five shots Sunday, and all from different players. Michelle Molen and Piper Cannon came off the bench and also put shots on goal like Haile and Gordon.

Central Oklahoma will play one more road game to start the season. The Bronchos play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Southwestern Oklahoma State, before hosting Oklahoma Christian Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 2017 home opener.
