No. 10 UCO Steamrolls Lady Lions

JOPLIN, Mo. (Sept. 22) – A sizzling offensive attack powered surging Central Oklahoma to another lopsided win here Friday night as the No. 10-ranked Bronchos overwhelmed Missouri Southern in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener for both teams.

UCO hit a season-best .434 -- collecting 40 kills in 76 attacks with just seven errors – in breezing to a 25-10, 25-11, 25-14 rout.  It was the 11th straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the league while dropping the Lady Lions to 7-6 and 0-1.

"It's always good to win on the road in this conference," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We obviously played very well offensively and everything seemed to be clicking for us."

Alexis Washington led UCO's potent attack with a .625 hitting percentage, collecting six kills in eight attempts with one error.  Jordan Spence hit .500 with seven kills and one miscue in 12 attacks, while Taylor Bevis racked up 14 kills with just two errors in 27 swings for a .444 success rate.

Allie Davis also had seven kills, with McKenzie Fyfe making 23 assists and 11 digs.  Dominique Lipari had a match-high 13 digs.

The Bronchos seized control early in all three sets in claiming their 11th sweep of the season.

Bevis had three of her six first-set kills during an 8-0 run that broke a 3-3 tie in the opening set, with Bevis and Washington delivering back-to-back kills early in the second set to put UCO ahead quickly.

The Bronchos broke on top 4-0 in the third set as Malia Kaaiohelo led off with a solo block and added a kill.

UCO wraps up its two-day, two-match league road-swing Saturday with a 6 p.m. contest in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist.  The Bronchos return home next Tuesday to host Pittsburg State at 6 p.m.
