Streaking Bronchos Clobber East Central

EDMOND (Sept. 15) – All 14 players in uniform saw action as Central Oklahoma continued its Hamilton Field House dominance by breezing past East Central on the second day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Tournament Friday  afternoon.

The No. 13-ranked Bronchos were never tested in a 25-16, 25-15, 25-10 rout that took just under an hour.  It was the eighth consecutive win for UCO, which is 11-1 on the season heading into a 6 p.m. meeting with Oklahoma Baptist to end the two-day tournament.

It was also the 18th straight home win for the Bronchos, who have won 38 of their last 39 matches inside the friendly confines of Hamilton Field House.

"We've had a lot of success at home the past few years and our players take a lot of pride it that," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We played pretty well and got to play everybody, which is always a good thing."

UCO had another strong offensive outing, finishing with a .376 attack percentage after hitting a season-best .377 in Thursday night's sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma.  The Bronchos had 48 kills and just 10 errors in 101 attempts, with nine players recording at least one kill.

Malia Kaaiohelo hit .643 with nine kills and no miscues in 14 attacks to lead the way.  Haley Deschenes hit .462 with eight kills, while Jordan Spence also had eight kills.  Taylor Bevis and Allie Davis had six kills apiece in limited action.

The Bronchos trailed only once in the entire match and that came in the opening set when ECU took a quick 2-0 lead.  UCO responded with four unanswered points to move in front for good, getting two kills from Spence and one from Kaaiohelo in addition to a Dominique Lipari service ace.

Spence and Deschenes delivered two kills each in a 7-0 run to open the second set that put the Bronchos in control, with UCO getting four kills apiece from Kaaiohelo and Karyn Chrisman in the third-set romp.
