UCO falls to Northeastern in non-conference matchup

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team lost an early lead and came up short on a late recovery, falling to Northeastern State 3-2 in a non-conference match at Tom Thompson Soccer Field Friday afternoon.

Mikayla Lowery scored both goals for the Bronchos. Her first gave UCO a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. But NSU responded with an equalizing goal in the 30th minute.

Northeastern State then took a 3-1 lead in the second half after goals in the 60th and 72nd minutes. Lowery gave the Bronchos a fighting chance with her second goal in the 78th minute.

"We had too many mental mistakes," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "We did control possession a lot, but some mistakes gave them the chance to score and it's never easy to play from behind."

The Bronchos took seven total shots on the day Friday, putting three on goal. Ally Salls played all 90 minutes in goal for Central, making one save on the day. Salls helped thwart numerous other shots too.

UCO falls to 1-4 on the season. The Bronchos travel to Bolivar, Mo. Sunday to take on Southwest Baptist in another non-conference matchup against an MIAA foe.
