Central run-ruled by Pittsburg State Friday

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped a 16-2 seven-inning run rule against Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Pittsburg State Friday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos (16-9-1, 6-8) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, 2-0 in the second, and never could keep pace with the Gorillas (11-17, 5-9).

Holden Capps got the start for the Bronchos Friday, but suffered his second loss of the season after allowing six earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work. One of the premier strikeout pitchers in the MIAA could only fool two Pitt State batters on Friday.

Dayne Sommer plated the only two runs for Central Oklahoma with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sommer finished 2 of 4 with 2 RBIs and a walk. In total Friday, Central left 11 runners on base, allowing PSU to build on its lead in six of seven innings played.

Game two in the three-game conference series is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. The teams will play a final game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
