Bronchos lose early lead, lose at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team lost 6-4 to Lindenwood Saturday night in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

The Bronchos (16-6-1, 6-5) built a two-run lead in the top of the first inning, and had a 4-0 lead in the second. But Lindenwood chipped away at the lead, scoring three in the bottom of the second before taking a 5-4 lead by scoring two more in the sixth. Lindenwood added one for insurance in the eighth.

"What we had working early, we couldn't keep it up," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We have to be more consistent than we were tonight."

Tyler Culver got the start for the Bronchos and threw 5 1/3 on the night. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and registered two walks. Culver also struck out two.

Greg Hyde came on for Culver in the sixth and allowed the fifth Lindenwood to cross the plate in that inning. Hyde faced nine batters and allowed three hits while striking out one. The senior took the loss on Saturday and is now 2-2 on the season. Shawn Troutman came on to pitch the eighth and allowed one run on one hit in relief effort.

The Bronchos beat Lindenwood with just four hits on Friday. UCO managed 11 hits Saturday but couldn't cultivate its baserunners to get any more runs.

Trae Smith led the Bronchos Saturday, going 3-for-5 from the plate and did have one RBI. Glenn Reeves added two hits in four at bats Saturday.

Korey Floyd led off the top of the first with a double down the right field line. Anthony Alvarez followed with a triple to left center to score Floyd before Smith picked up his RBI on a single through the left side that scored Alvarez and put UCO up 2-0 in the first.

In the second inning, Reeves led off with a double to left center and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Justin Brown and Floyd were hit by pitches, Alvarez slapped a two-RBI single to left field to make it 4-0 Central.

Unfortunately, the Bronchos couldn't get any more runs across the plate. The teams are scheduled to play the final game of their three-game series on Sunday at noon. Central Oklahoma will then return home and hosts Missouri Southern on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field.
