Bronchos stumped by Central Missouri Sunday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma couldn't get its bats going Sunday in the series finale against Central Missouri, and lost 12-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup.

The Bronchos (14-5-1, 5-4) managed just two hits on the day and struggled on the mound as well, giving up 12 runs and 14 hits to the second-ranked team in the country.

"That's a really tough loss," UCO head coach John Martin said. "They were finding pitches and getting the ball in play. They scored 12 runs and didn't hit a single home run. Then we're struggling to do that at the same time, it wasn't good. We need to get home and re-focus after that one."

Anthony Alvarez went 2-for-2 on the day for the Bronchos, recording the only hits against Central Missouri's Steven D'Amico and Nick Houston.

J.D. Cameron got the start for Central and gave up six runs – four earned – on seven hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. Gaylon Viney came on in the second for Cameron and allowed one run on one hit and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Cameron and Viney both struck out one batter each.

Tabor Charles came on in the bottom of the fourth but was pulled after allowing two runs and a walk before recording an out. Bobby Pierce then entered for the Bronchos and allowed one run in 1/3 innings. Drake Harper threw 2/3 innings and gave up two hits and a run.

Zayne Dougan produced the only scoreless inning on the day for the Broncho defense, throwing the fifth and striking out one. Shawn Troutman threw the bottom of the sixth and gave up another run on two hits.

After the Bronchos failed to score in the top of the seventh, the game was called.

UCO returns to Edmond and will host Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field before heading back out on the road. The Bronchos play an MIAA series in St. Charles, Mo. against Lindenwood next weekend.
