Bronchos fall to Central Missouri Friday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team fell behind in the early minutes of its Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup at Central Missouri Friday night, and never recovered, dropping the conference tilt 3-0.

UCO drops to 5-5-1 on the season, and 2-1-1 in league play. Friday's loss snapped a five-game unbeaten streak.

"We knew they were capable of coming out and attacking like that, and we let that get the best of us tonight," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We have to be stronger mentally if we want to win this league, because that's the team you have to beat."

Central Missouri scored in the third minute (2:02 on the clock) when Abby Rhodes slotted her eighth goal of the season, unassisted from inside the 18. Rhodes struck again in the 31st minute dribbling in from left to center, and netting the goal from about 20 yards out. The Jennies made it 3-0 when Jada Scott scored on a header in the 35th.

Ally Salls played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos, and was able to make seven saves. Salls drops to 4-2 on the season in net.

The Bronchos as a team took 13 shots, five on goal. Katie Killion's three shots on target off the bench led the way for the UCO offense. But the Bronchos were unable to score on the second-ranked Central Missouri, which has now shutout all 11 opponents this season.

UCO is back in action Sunday. The Bronchos play MIAA foe Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo. at 2 p.m.
