Miraku Reaches 150-win Plateau In UCO Rout

EDMOND (Oct. 27) -- Edgar Miraku reached another coaching milestone Friday night at Hamilton Field House as Central Oklahoma strolled past outmanned Missouri Southern.

The No. 13-ranked Bronchos picked up a 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 sweep in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association mismatch, handing Miraku his 150th career win.  UCO improved to 24-3 on the season and 11-2 in league play heading into Saturday's 7 p.m. home match with Southwest Baptist.

"I've been fortunate to have had a lot of great players and they deserve all the credit," said Miraku, who improved to 150-45 in just his sixth year at the UCO helm.  "We didn't play our best tonight, but a lot of different players contributed and we took care of business."

Taylor Bevis paced the Bronchos with 15 kills and just one error in 36 attacks for a blistering .389 hitting percentage.  Allie Davis added seven kills, while Malia Kaaiohelo had five and Jordan Spence four.

UCO never trailed in the opening set to take quick control of the match, bolting to an 8-1 lead as Spence had two kills and a solo block.

It appeared to be more of the same in the second set after back-to-back Davis kills gave the Bronchos a 10-4 advantage, but MSSU battled back to take a 14-13 lead.  UCO responded with four straight points to move back in front and pulled away from there.

The third set was close early before the Bronchos went on a 13-3 run to turn a precarious 8-7 lead into a big 21-10 cushion, with Bevis and Kaaiohelo getting two kills apiece in that surge.  The Lions tried to get back in it, but UCO easily held on and Kaaiohelo's service ace ended the match.
