Bronchos Clipped By Razorbacks in Preseason Exhibition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team dropped a 78-66 exhibition contest with Division I Arkansas Friday night at Bud Walton Arena as the Bronchos continue to make final preparations for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Central Oklahoma saw an early deficit thanks to 3-point shooting that favored the home Razorbacks and showed no mercy to the traveling Bronchos. UCO was just 3 of 13 from behind the arc in the first half, but did manage to get 10 of 12 from the free throw line to keep the game close. Arkansas led 45-35 at the break.

UCO had a more rounded second half, knocking down four shots from deep. But Arkansas stuck with its pace, winning the second half by two points to grab the 12-point preseason win.

"I'm glad the kids got the opportunity to come out here and play a team of this caliber," UCO head men's basketball coach Tom Hankins said. "Arkansas is a really good team, an NCAA Tournament team, for us to come out and play in an awesome venue and run with these guys, that's a great experience for us."

Senior Marqueese Grayson, who transferred from DI Albany this summer, led the Bronchos in scoring with 16 points. Grayson was 6 of 11 from the floor, 2 of 6 from deep, and added four assists.

Returning veteran Corbin Byford also had double-digits for the Bronchos Friday night. The All-MIAA performer of a year ago, had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds on 5 of 11 shooting. Another veteran on the Central roster, Jordan London, also added double-digit scoring for the Bronchos, putting in 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting, including a solid three 3-pointers on four attempts.

Central Oklahoma opens the new season on Friday, Nov. 11 in Alva, Oklahoma. The Bronchos play Southeastern Oklahoma State in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference Crossover Challenge. UCO will also play host Northwestern on Saturday, Nov. 12.
