No. 10 UCO Rolls On The Road

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Oct. 20) – No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma overcame early deficits in each set to claim a sweep of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Lindenwood here Friday night.

The Bronchos earned their eighth straight road win by a 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 margin, improving to 22-2 overall and 9-1 in the league to remain tied atop the conference standings with Nebraska-Kearney.  UCO moves on to Warrensburg, Mo. Saturday for a 4 p.m. showdown against No. 18 Central Missouri (18-5, 8-2).

"Any win on the road in this conference is a good one," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We played really well in spots and did what we needed to do.  It's going to be a big challenge tomorrow, but our girls are excited about it."

All-American Taylor Bevis led the Bronchos once again, hitting a solid .304 while collecting a match-high 17 kills against just three errors in 46 attacks.  The junior outside hitter added nine digs, one solo block and one assisted block.

UCO also got seven kills from Haley Deschenes, six kills and five assisted blocks from Alexis Washington and five kills with three assisted blocks from Jordan Spence.

The Bronchos faced slim deficits in all three sets in a match that featured 22 ties and 11 lead changes, but used a series of scoring spurts in each set to move ahead for good in pulling off the sweep.

UCO was down 10-9 in the opening set before getting two kills apiece from Bevis and Washington in a 6-1 run that made it 15-11 and put the Bronchos in control.

It was a 12-10 deficit in the second set when Bevis took over, knocking down three kills and adding a solo block as UCO ran off six unanswered points to go ahead 16-12.  The Bronchos never trailed again, though the Lions were still close at 23-22 before Deschenes and Bevis sandwiched kills around a Lindenwood score to pull out the tight win.

UCO was down again early in the third set and it was tied 5-5 when Deschenes registered two kills and teamed with Spence for a block to spark a 5-0 scoring spree that gave the Bronchos a lead they never relinquished.
