Bronchos tie Emporia Sunday

EMPORIA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team tied Emporia State 2-2 Sunday afternoon in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bronchos move to 5-4-1 on the season, and 2-0-1 in league play. Central also extended its unbeaten streak to five games.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't come away with a win," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "We did some good things, but we should have won. We had our chances, and we need to be able to put those away moving forward."

UCO held a 1-0 lead Sunday, after Kelsie Eason put home her fifth goal of the season, unassisted, in the 36th minute.

The Bronchos gladly took that lead to halftime. Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Asher made seven first half saves to keep Emporia off the scoreboard.

Emporia equalized in the 55th, but the Bronchos didn't take long to move back in front. Eason scored her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute from 10 yards out on a pass from Mikayla Lowery.

Emporia got two other shots on goal in the second half, and Asher saved one. In the 74th minute, the Hornets tied the game at two, ultimately forcing overtime.

The Bronchos took four shots in extra time, two in each half and one on goal in each half. But, Emporia saved them both. Asher saved one more Emporia shot in the first extra time period.

Central Oklahoma continues a four-game road trip next weekend. The Bronchos take on Central Missouri on Friday, before taking on Lindenwood next Sunday.
