Bronchos Split Doubleheader At Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 9) – JoBi Heath and Lexi Watson belted home runs to lead Central Oklahoma to a first-game win as the Bronchos split a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader with Central Missouri here Saturday.

UCO prevailed 6-4 in the opener before dropping a 3-2 extra-inning decision in the nightcap to end a four-game winning streak.  The Bronchos are now 30-14 on the season and 13-5 in league play.

"We didn't swing the bats as well today as we have been and left a lot of runs out there," said head coach Cody White, whose team managed 14 hits in the two games.  "It was a tough loss in the second game, but we won three out of four road games and that's a pretty good weekend."

UCO built a 4-0 lead in the first game before holding on at the end.

The Bronchos broke on top 2-0 in the second when Watson walked, went to second on Heath's double and scored on a wild pitch before Ashton Smith added an RBI single.

It became a 4-0 cushion an inning later after Watson reached on a two-out fielder's choice and Heath followed with a bomb over the left field wall for her 10th homer of the season.

The Jennies scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to pull within 4-3 before Watson's lead-off homer in the sixth – her team-high 13th of the year – made it 5-3.

UCM cut the deficit to one again with a solo homer in the bottom of that frame, but Watson came through with a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Bronchos an insurance run.

Abbie Lancaster got two-on, two-out jam in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win and earn her second save of the season.  Nicole Brady gave up five hits and one earned run in going the first 5.0 innings to pick up the win, improving to 12-3.

UCO managed seven hits, getting two each from Heath and Watson.

The Bronchos took a 1-0 lead in their first at bat of the nightcap on Halley Randolph's RBI groundout that scored Morgan Heard, who had led off the game with a double before going to third on a balk.

UCM scored twice in the bottom of the first to go up 2-1 and it stayed that way until the sixth when Randolph tied it with a lead-off homer to left field.

The Bronchos left two runners on base in both the seventh and eighth innings and UCM broke the deadlock in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly.

Heath had two of UCO's seven hits.

The Bronchos go back on the road Wednesday for a league doubleheader at Washburn.
