UCO, RiverHawks Split Twinbill

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (April 2) – Ally Dziadula and Morgan Heard drove in four runs apiece to lead Central Oklahoma to an 11-4 first-game victory and the Bronchos split a non-conference doubleheader with Northeastern State here Saturday afternoon.

UCO scored five runs in the seventh inning of the opener to break open a close game before the RiverHawks came back to earn a 4-3 extra-inning victory in the nightcap.

The two teams split back-to-back doubleheaders, with NSU winning a pair of one-run games while the Bronchos claimed seven- and 10-run victories.

UCO, now 26-12 on the season, returns home Wednesday to host No. 8-ranked St. Mary's for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The Bronchos scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings of the opener to break on top.

Heard's RBI single put UCO ahead, Halley Randolph added a run-scoring single in the third and Heard made it 3-0 when she came home on a wild pitch after earlier reaching base on a walk.

The RiverHawks got one back in the bottom of the fourth, but Dziadula drilled a three-run home run in the sixth to give UCO a 6-1 lead.

NSU got back in the game with a three-run volley in the bottom of that frame, but the Bronchos put the game away with a five-run outburst in the top of the seventh.

Heard's three-run blast to center field was the big blow and Dziadula followed with her second dinger of the game, with Carrie Abrams adding an RBI double later in the inning to make it 11-4.

Dziadula and Heard had four RBI each, with Dizadula going 3-for-3 at the plate to lead UCO's 12-hit attack.  Heard, Abrams and Rachel Harper added two hits apiece.

Jessi Walker started and earned the pitching win, giving up four earned runs while striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings.  Nicole Brady came on in the sixth to shut down NSU's rally and allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save.

The RiverHawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game and UCO didn't get on the board until scoring twice in the fifth.  The Bronchos tied it in the top of the seventh on Heard's lead-off homer, but NSU broke the 3-3 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth.
