UCO Rips Blue Tigers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (April 17) – Jon Kamies belted two of Central Oklahoma's six home runs and the Bronchos bombarded Lincoln 22-6 to finish off a three-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep here Sunday afternoon.

Chris Lobato, Isaac Hellbusch, Trae Smith and Brenton Washausen also went deep in leading UCO's 16-hit attack, while Jaycee Parker provided a solid starting performance on the mound.

The Bronchos improved to 23-15 overall and 15-12 in the league with their fourth conference series sweep of the season, including the second on the road.

"You have to be happy anytime you can sweep a series in this league, especially on the road," first-year head coach John Martin said.  "Our offense was really good all weekend and now that we've got a little momentum we need to keep it going."

UCO actually trailed 4-3 after three innings, but went ahead to stay with a three-run volley in the fourth and broke the game open with a 10-run fifth-inning eruption en route to ending the game after seven on the 10-run rule.

Smith had a team-high three hits, with Kamies, Hellbusch, Lobato, Washausen and Jake Dyer adding two each.  Kamies, who now ranks eighth on the school's single-season homer list with 16, drove in six runs and Lobato four.

Parker allowed just three hits and three earned runs in the first five innings while striking out three in earning the win, improving to 4-3.  Zayne Dougan and Shawn Troutman pitched an inning apiece to close the game out.

UCO led 3-0 early, but the Blue Tigers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the third to go up 4-3.

Smith tied it in the top of the fourth with a lead-off homer to right and Lobato put the Bronchos ahead to stay later in the frame with his first long ball of the season, this one a two-run shot to left that made it 6-4.

The Bronchos sent 13 batters to the plate in the 10-run fifth to take total control, getting two-run homers from Hellbusch and Kamies along with a two-run double from Smith.

UCO's big bomb attack continued in the sixth as Washausen cranked a two-run shot and Kamies blasted a grand slam in upping the lead to 22-4 before LU scored two runs in its final at bat.

The Bronchos return to league action Tuesday with a 2 p.m. single game at Northeastern State.
