Kamies Fuels UCO Rout

HAYS, Kan. (March 6) – Jon Kamies had five hits and drove in three runs to spark Central Oklahoma to a 15-4 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association romp over Fort Hays State here Sunday afternoon.

The Bronchos clubbed 15 hits in ending the game after seven innings on the 10-run rule while also getting a complete-game pitching outing from Brock Stuber, who didn't give up an earned run in a two-strikeout, one-walk performance.

UCO improved to 9-5 on the season and 4-2 in the league in winning the final contest of the three-game series after dropping one-run decisions Friday and Saturday.

"I was proud of the way our guys came out ready to go today after losing two tough games," first-year head coach John Martin said.  "We were aggressive at the plate and picked up a win we really needed to have."

Kamies' 5-for-5 day at the plate led the way, with the Bronchos also getting two hits apiece from Casey Bowlan, Jacob Borrego and Brenton Washausen.

UCO scored one run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead before erupting for four runs in the fifth behind a two-run home run by Kamies.

FHSU scored all four of its runs in the bottom of that inning to pull within 8-4, but the Bronchos pushed its lead to 10-4 in the sixth and then added a five-run volley in the seventh as Washausen belted a three-run homer and Isaac Hellbusch added a two-RBI single.

UCO goes to Alva to take on Northwestern Oklahoma in a single game Tuesday before hosting Central Missouri for a three-game conference series next weekend.
