FHSU Tops Bronchos In 13 Innings

HAYS, Kan. (March 5) – Central Oklahoma dropped its second straight one-run decision to Fort Hays State here Saturday when the Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the 13th inning to pull out a 4-3 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association victory.

The Bronchos scored a run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 2-all and then went ahead with a run in the 10th only to see FHSU tie it again in the bottom of the game.

The Tigers broke the 3-3 deadlock in the 13th with a pair of walks and a two-out single.

UCO, which lost 10-9 in the bottom of the ninth in Friday's series-opener, dropped to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in the league.  The teams complete the three-game series at 12 p.m. Sunday.

Korey Floyd and Jacob Borrego had two hits apiece to lead the UCO offense, while Greg Hyde allowed just four hits and two unearned runs in pitching the first seven innings.

The Bronchos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Floyd led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Borrego's sacrifice bunt and scored on Landon Eason's groundout.

FHSU tied it in the third and went ahead 2-1 in the fourth.

It stayed that way until UCO pushed across a run in its final at bat.  Casey Bowlan led off with a pinch-hit single and stole second before eventually scoring on Eason's sacrifice fly.

T.J. Sparr put the Bronchos ahead briefly in the 10th when he singled, stole second and scored on consecutive wild pitches.
