Minnesota State Blanks Bronchos

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 20) – Central Oklahoma's offense ranks among the most potent in NCAA Division II, but the Bronchos were shut down by Minnesota State-Mankato here Sunday in the Apple Market Softball Classic.

UCO -- averaging 11.6 hits and 8.3 runs a game with a .390 team average that ranks second-best in the nation – struck out 16 times and didn't manage a hit in suffering a 5-0 setback to the Mavericks, its first shutout loss since midway through last season.

The Bronchos were scheduled to end the three-day event against Mary, but that game was cancelled.  UCO, now 20-10 on the season, returns to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday at home against Nebraska-Kearney.

"Mankato's pitcher just took it to us today," head coach Cody White said.  "It was a disappointing weekend for us, but we have to put it behind us and move on."

The Bronchos drew four walks, had only one runner reach second base in the game and ended the game with eight consecutive strikeouts.

Nicole Brady gave up just six hits in going the distance in the circle for UCO, but three errors led to three unearned runs and the Mavericks scored all the runs they needed with two in the first inning.
