Cougars Top UCO In Slugfest

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 19) – Central Oklahoma showcased plenty of firepower, but Sioux Falls had more in handing the Bronchos a 14-8 setback in the weather-plagued Apple Market Softball Classic here Saturday.
 
The two teams slugged six home runs apiece and combined for 34 hits, with the Cougars building a 12-2 lead before holding off UCO down the stretch.  The Bronchos, now 20-9 on the season, had their second game cancelled by snow.
 
UCO is scheduled to finish the three-day event Sunday with games against Minnesota State-Mankato and Mary.
 
"We hit the ball good enough, but we just couldn't get them out," head coach Cody White said.  "Both teams have a lot of power and today they had more than we did."
 
The Bronchos were down 12-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but got back in the game with three runs in that frame and three more in the second.
 
Halley Randolph had a two-run homer and Ashleigh Tramel a solo shot in the fifth, while Ally Dziadula, JoBi Heath and Tori Collet all ripped solo round-trippers in the sixth to pull UCO within 12-8.
 
Sioux Falls came back with a two-run homer of its own in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
 
Dziadula, Collet, Tramel and Lexi Watson had two hits apiece to lead a 14-hit attack, with Watson also hitting a homer.  The Cougars finished with 20 hits.
