Bronchos Win Wild One

EDMOND (March 19) – Landon Eason belted a pair of home runs and Central Oklahoma scored 10 runs in the first two innings in subduing Lindenwood 16-11 Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

It was the fourth straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 15-7 on the season and 7-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  The teams complete a three-game series at noon Sunday.

UCO used six pitchers and the Lions five in a contest that took nearly four hours to complete, with the teams combining for 25 hits, 19 walks and eight wild pitches.

"It was a back-and-forth game from the start, but we came up with some key hits that gave us a spark," head coach John Martin said.  "It was a good win for us and hopefully we can finish off the weekend on the right note tomorrow."

Both teams got off to fast starts, with the Lions scoring three times in the top of the first before UCO answered with seven in its first at bat.  LU tied it in the top of the second, but the Bronchos broke the 7-7 deadlock with three more runs in the bottom of that frame and led the rest of the way.

Jon Kamies had the big hit in the first with a three-run double to right field and Brenton Washausen's two-RBI single in the second helped give UCO the early 10-7 lead.

Eason's run-scoring triple made it 11-7 in the third, with solo homers by Jake Dyer and Eason in the fifth answering a two-run Lindenwood inning to keep the Bronchos on top 13-9.

UCO added two runs in the sixth and got another solo shot from Eason in the seventh to go up 16-9 before the Lions scored single runs in the eighth and ninth.

Lindenwood threatened to get back in the game in its final at bat, scoring once and loading the bases with two outs before Shawn Troutman came on to get a game-ending strikeout in earning his third save of the season.

Austin Stewart earned the pitching win with 2 1/3 innings of no-hit relief work early in the contest.

Eason finished 3-for-4 with three RBI at the plate, while Dyer, Kamies and Korey Floyd adding two hits apiece.
