Bronchos Split In Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 18) – Central Oklahoma clubbed five home runs in an 11-0 drubbing of Concordia-St. Paul to salvage a split of its first two games in the Apple Market Softball Classic here Friday.

The Bronchos committed four errors in a 12-4 first-game loss to Augustana after leading 3-0 early before bouncing back with the run-rule rout of the Golden Bears.

UCO, now 20-8 on the season, returns to action Saturday with games against Sioux Falls and No. 16-ranked Winona State before playing Minnesota State-Mankato and Mary Sunday.

"It was a good bounce-back win after the first game," head coach Cody White said.  "We made too many mistakes and Augustana took advantage, but I thought we did a good job putting that behind us and getting ready for the next game."

JoBi Heath, Carli Jones, Halley Randolph, Ashleigh Tramel and Ashton Smith all went yard in the romp over Concordia, with Heath's lead-off homer in the second starting a six-run volley.

Morgan Heard and Ally Dziadula added RBI singles in that frame before Jones capped it with a three-run dinger.

Randolph smacked a two-run homer in the third to make it 8-0, with Tramel and Smith belting back-to-back solo shots in a three-run fifth to up the lead to 11-0.

Jones and Heard both had three hits to lead UCO's 12-hit attack, while Jessi Walker tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout.  The junior right-hander struck out seven and walked just two.

Heath and Tori Collet had RBI singles in the first inning of the opening game against Augustana to stake the Bronchos to a quick 2-0 lead and it was 3-0 after Heard's sacrifice fly in the second.

The Vikings took control in the bottom of that inning, turning four walks, two errors and three hits – including two homers – into nine runs for a 9-3 lead en route to ending the game after five on the eight-run rule.
