Bronchos Sweep Southeastern Oklahoma

EDMOND (March 15) – Central Oklahoma finished off a season sweep of intrastate rival Southeastern Oklahoma Tuesday with 4-2 and 7-2 wins at wind-blown Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the opener before scoring five runs in the first two innings of the second game to take control early en route to improving to 13-7 on the season.

UCO, which beat the Savage Storm 3-2 and 13-12 two weeks ago in Durant, returns to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action Friday when it hosts Lindenwood at 3 p.m. to start a three-game weekend series.

"We played good defense and got solid pitching in both games," said head coach John Martin, whose team committed just one error on the day while using seven pitchers in the two games.  "I like the way our guys come to the park every day ready to compete and we just need to continue doing that."

Three pitchers combined to pitch a four-hitter in the first-game win.  Zach Wunderlich picked up the win with two shutout innings and J.D. Cameron earned the save after giving up one hit in the final two innings.

Jake Dyer and Korey Floyd had two hits apiece to lead an eight-hit attack.

SOSU scored its only two runs in the second inning and it stayed 2-0 until the fourth when the Bronchos tied it on T.J. Sparr's two-run home run to right-center field.

UCO moved in front 4-2 in the fifth on Jon Kamies' two-run double and the Savage Storm didn't threaten the rest of the way.

The Bronchos pounced early in the nightcap, scoring five runs on five hits in the first two innings.

Kamies had an RBI single and an error added two more runs in the first, with Dyer and Casey Bowlan delivering RBI hits in the second to make it 5-0.

The Savage Storm scored single runs in the third and fifth to get within 5-2, but Brenton Washausen cranked out a two-run homer in the sixth to give UCO some insurance.

Nine players had hits in a nine-hit offensive outing, while Jaycee Parker got the pitching win with 2 1/3 innings of relief help.
