Runs Aplenty

EDMOND (March 13) – Lexi Watson drove in seven runs with a pair of long balls to lead a 26-hit attack that carried Central Oklahoma to a two run-rule routs of Lincoln here Sunday afternoon.

The No. 24-ranked Bronchos had 10 hits in an 8-0 first-game romp and then rolled to a 13-1 drubbing in the nightcap behind a 16-hit attack.

UCO improved to 17-7 on the season and 5-3 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with its second doubleheader sweep in two days.

"We have a lot of offensive weapons and continue to be aggressive at the plate," said head coach Cody White, whose team outscored Lindenwood and Lincoln by a combined 44-3 over the weekend.  "It was a good weekend for us and we just want to build on that momentum."

The Bronchos also got good pitching in the sweep, including a second consecutive shutout from Jessi Walker.

The junior right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks in the opener while striking out one and needed just 59 pitches in improving to 7-3.

Morgan Heard, Ally Dziadula and Ashleigh Tramel had two hits apiece to lead the 10-hit attack, with Watson delivering a grand slam during a six-run second-inning explosion.

Tramel had a solo homer and Heard a run scoring double in that frame to put UCO in early control and the Bronchos ended the game on the eight-run rule in the fifth behind Ashton Smith's RBI double and Dziadula's sacrifice fly.

Nicole Brady and Abbie Lancaster gave up just five hits in the pitching circle in the second-game win, with Brady throwing three one-hit innings to start before Lancaster went the final two in her first outing of the season.

Twelve players had hits for UCO, led by two-hit games from Heard, JoBi Heath, Halley Randolph and Carrie Abrams.

The Bronchos took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Carli Jones' RBI triple, got a two-run single from Dziadula in a four-run second and then erupted for seven runs in the third.

Watson blasted a three-run homer – her team-high eighth of the season – in that frame, while Tramel added a two-run dinger and Dziadula a two-run double as UCO made it 12-0 before coasting in.

The Bronchos are home again Tuesday, hosting Texas A&M International for a 2 p.m. twinbill.
