Walker, Brady Spark Bronchos

EDMOND (March 12) -- Jessi Walker and Nicole Brady had complete-game pitching outings to lead No. 24-ranked Central Oklahoma to an easy doubleheader sweep of Lindenwood Saturday afternoon.

Walker threw a two-hit shutout in an 8-0 first-game rout and Brady gave up just three hits in a 15-2 second-game shellacking as the Bronchos improved to 15-7 on the season and 3-3 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

"We got two solid pitching outings and that was really good to see," said head coach Cody White, whose team hosts league rival Lincoln for a 1 p.m. twinbill Sunday.  "We swung the bats well and did a good job taking care of business today."

UCO banged out 26 hits in the sweep, collecting eight in the opener before erupting for 18 in the nightcap en route to ending both games after five innings on the eight-run rule.

Morgan Heard and JoBi Heath had two hits apiece to pace the offense in the first game.

The Bronchos took control quickly with a four-run volley in the first inning behind Carli Jones' two-run double and Heath's RBI single.  Lexi Watson blasted a solo home run and Jones added a run-scoring groundout in the second to push the lead to 6-0.

UCO finished the scoring in the third with two more runs.  Tori Collet hit a lead-off double, Ashton Smith was hit by pitch and Rachel Harper drew a walk to load the bases, with Heard's sacrifice fly and Dziadula's RBI single making it 8-0.

Walker finished it off in the pitching circle, retiring the final seven batters she faced to finish off the shutout.  The junior right-hander allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out six in improving to 6-3.

The Lions took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game, but UCO answered back with Dziadula's two-run homer in its initial at bat to tie it and then erupted for 13 runs in the third and fourth innings to end the game.

The Bronchos had a trio of two-run hits in the third -- on a single by Halley Randolph, a triple by Dziadula and a homer by Ashleigh Tramel -- in a sixth-run third and followed with seven more in the fourth.

Lauren Kelley capped that big inning with a two-run single, while Smith, Harper, Heard, Dziadula and Jones added RBI hits.

Dziadula went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI to lead UCO, while Heard and Smith also had three-hit outings.

Brady settled down after the shaky first inning to allow just three hits and one walk while striking out four in an efficient 65-pitch performance.
