Bronchos Topple SOSU

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 7) – Shelby Carel hit a solo home run to break a tie and Central Oklahoma went on to dispatch Southeastern Oklahoma 6-3 here Sunday on the final day of the Southeastern Oklahoma Classic.

It was the fourth straight win for the Bronchos after an opening-game loss to Arkansas Tech as UCO improved to 6-1 on the young season.

"It was a good way to finish," head coach Cody White said.  "We dropped a tough game on the first day, but I was proud of the way we bounced back after that and we played pretty well all weekend."

Both teams scored three runs in the first inning and it was still deadlocked at 3-all when Carel hit a one-home homer to center field in the top of the fourth to put the Bronchos in front.

Tori Collet added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Morgan Heard a run-scoring double in the sixth to give UCO breathing room.

Lexi Watson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead a nine-hit attack and Nicole Brady picked up the pitching win, giving up just four hits and two earned runs while going the distance in the circle.

The Bronchos broke on top 3-0 in the top of the first as JoBi Heath belted a two-run homer to left and Carli Jones added a solo shot to center, but SOSU answered back with three of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

UCO goes to Shawnee to play Oklahoma Baptist in a single game at 3 p.m. Tuesday before making its home debut Friday, hosting Oklahoma Christian for a single game at 2 p.m.
