Walker, Heard Spark UCO

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 6) – Jessi Walker threw a one-hit shutout in a first-game win and Morgan Heard went 5-for-5 to lead a second-game rout as Central Oklahoma swept two games in the rain-delayed Southeastern Oklahoma Classic here Saturday.

The Bronchos blanked Henderson State 4-0 in the opener behind Walker's dominating performance in the circle before scoring seven sixth-inning runs to claim a 15-7 run-rule victory over Southwestern Oklahoma.

UCO, now 5-1 on the season, wraps up the three-day event Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. contest against the host Savage Storm.

"It was a long day with all the delays because of the rain, but I was proud of the way we stayed focused," head coach Cody White said.  "Jessi was really in control in the first game and we just rode our offense against Southwestern."

Walker gave up just a fifth-inning single in her one-hit masterpiece against HSU.  The junior right-hander struck out eight and walked five in improving to 3-0.

JoBi Heath and Tori Collet had two hits apiece to lead the offense, with the Bronchos scoring three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Lexi Watson's run-scoring single broke a scoreless tie to spark the fourth-inning uprising that saw Collet and Brooke Zukerman add RBI singles.  Heath made it 4-0 with an RBI hit in the fifth and that was plenty of cushion with Walker in the circle.

UCO led 3-2 through three innings against the Bulldogs before pushing across five runs in the fourth on a three-run home run by Carli Jones and two-run single by Halley Randolph.

SWOSU closed to within 8-7 after its half of the sixth, but the Bronchos erupted for seven runs in their half of the inning to end the game on the eight-run rule.

UCO drew three bases-loaded walks in that frame in addition to getting a two-run single from Heard and run-scoring singles from Watson and Ashton Smith.

Heard led a 15-hit attack with her 5-for-5 performance at the plate, while Watson, Jones, Smith and Rachel Harper added two hits each.
