UCO Earns Split At SOSU Classic

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 5) – Central Oklahoma took control early and cruised to a 13-5 rout of Oklahoma Christian here Friday to give the Bronchos a split of  two games on the opening day of the Southeastern Oklahoma Classic here Friday.
 
UCO dropped a tough 10-9 decision to Arkansas Tech in the opener before bouncing back to rout the Eagles behind a 17-hit attack in moving to 3-1 on the young season.
 
The Bronchos return to action at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against Henderson State and then face Southwestern Oklahoma at 6 p.m. before ending the three-day classic Sunday against host Southeastern Oklahoma.
 
"I was proud of the way we bounced back after a disappointing loss this morning," head coach Cody White said.  "We did a great job coming back to get the lead in the first game and then just didn't finish, but we really swung the bats well and took care of business this afternoon."
 
JoBi Heath, Ally Dziadula, Lexi Watson and Halley Randolph had three hits apiece to pace UCO's offensive attack against the Eagles.
 
Watson's run-scoring single gave the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and UCO erupted for seven runs in the third as Watson, Heath, Randolph, Shelby Carel and Morgan Heard all had RBI hits.
 
OC got back in the game with five runs in the top of the fourth, but the Bronchos regained control with two runs in their half of that inning and then got another Watson run-scoring hit in the fifth to make it 11-5.
 
UCO ended the game on the eight-run rule in the sixth as Dziadula had an RBI double and Heath a game-ending RBI single.
 
Jessi Walker picked up the pitching win after going the first four innings, while Nicole Brady wrapped it up with two shutout innings of relief help.
 
UCO scored eight unanswered runs to overcome a six-run deficit against ATU in Friday's first game only to see Golden Sun push across a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 10-9 victory.

The Bronchos trailed 7-1 after four innings before pulling even with six runs in the fifth and then going ahead 9-7 with two more in the top of the sixth.

ATU made it 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth and then used an error, two walks and a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to win it in their final at bat.

UCO managed just five hits and benefitted from 11 walks to overcoming the 7-1 deficit.

Tori Collet had the big hit in the sixth with a grand slam and Watson added a two-run double as the Bronchos pulled even at 7-7.
 
A two-run error pushed UCO in front 9-7 in the top of the sixth and ATU got one run back in its half of that inning before winning it in the seventh.
