UCO Slugs Way Past Bearcats

EDMOND (Feb. 27) – Landon Eason slugged two home runs to lead another offensive assault that carried Central Oklahoma past Southwest Baptist 15-9 Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos, who won a 22-20 slugfest in Friday's meeting between the two teams, had five homers among their 13 hits as Jon Kamies, T.J. Sparr and Hunter Schellhardt also went yard.

UCO improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the league while dropping the Bearcats to 4-5 and 0-2.  The teams end the three-game series Sunday at 12 p.m.

"We were aggressive at the plate once again and it paid off for us," head coach John Martin said.  "We struggled some defensively, but I thought we got a couple of good pitching outings and came out with a nice win."

Greg Hyde earned the win after starting and going the first five innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs.  Austin Stewart went the final four innings to pick up the save, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Isaac Hellbusch had a team-high three hits, while Eason, Kamies and Sparr all had two hits

UCO broke an early 3-3 tie in the second inning on Eason's three-run homer to right field and made it 8-3 in the third when Schellhardt belted a two-run shot to right-center.

SBU closed within 8-6 in the fourth, but the Bronchos put the game away with six runs in the next two innings.

Sparr had the big blow with a grand slam to right-center in the fifth and Eason's second dinger of the day – this one a two-run shot – made it 14-6 in the sixth and UCO coasted in.
