UCO Splits Two Games In Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (Feb. 13) – A trio of pitchers combined for a two-hitter in leading Central Oklahoma past Central Missouri on the first day of the Southern Arkansas Festival here Saturday.

Greg Hyde, Ryan McCourt and Zayne Dougan teamed up to shut down the Mules in a 5-1 win in the opener before the Bronchos fell to host and No. 14-ranked Muleriders 11-1 in the final game of the day.

UCO, now 2-1 on the young season, finishes the two-day event Sunday with a 12 p.m. game against Washburn.

Hyde did most of the work against UCM, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out three in the first six innings.  McCourt pitched two no-hit innings and Dougan went the final inning, allowing one hit and one run.

Landon Eason and Issac Hellbusch had two hits apiece to pace the offense.

The Bronchos broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Trae Smith led off with a double, went to third on Chris Lobato's sacrifice bunt and scored on Hunter Schellhardt's single to left-center field.

UCO added an unearned run in the fourth and then made it 5-0 in the sixth with a three-run volley as Hellsbusch had a run-scoring double and two more runs scored on errors.

The Bronchos managed just two hits against SAU, which ended the game on the 10-run rule in the eighth inning.

UCO's lone run came in the top of the sixth when Jacob Borrego walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on T.J. Sparr's single.
