UCO Rolls Past Lions

JOPLIN, Mo. (Nov. 4) – Jordan Spence ignited a hot-hitting Central Oklahoma team that annihilated Missouri Southern here Friday night.

The No. 9-ranked Bronchos rolled to their sixth straight win – all of them three-set sweeps – with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 rout, improving to 27-2 on the season and 13-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

Spence hit a sizzling .833 with 10 kills and no errors in 12 attacks to lead the way as UCO hit a season-high .408 with 43 kills and only 12 miscues in 76 attempts.

Allison Barr, Ijeoma Njenje and Alexis Washington had seven kills apiece, with Barr and Njenje both adding three blocks.  Barr hit .700, not making an error in 10 attacks.

Katy Davis spearheaded the offensive onslaught with 39 assists, while Dominique Lipari had nine digs and Bonnie Vernon seven to pace the defense.

The Lions led 5-2 early in the first set before Barr had back-to-back kills and Spence a service ace during an 11-3 run that put UCO in front 13-8 and the Bronchos pulled away from there.

UCO never trailed in the second set after Fulani Petties and Washington had kills in an opening 3-0 spurt and the Bronchos took advantage of five straight MSSU errors to turn an 11-11 tie into a 16-11 lead in the final set.

UCO, which clinched a first-round home match in the MIAA Post-season Tournament with the win, travels to Bolivar, Mo. Saturday to take on Southwest Baptist at 2 p.m.
