Barr, Spence Lead Bronchos Past SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. (Nov. 5) – Allison Barr and Jordan Spence continued their at-the-net dominance to lead No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma to another overwhelming Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association romp here Saturday afternoon.

Barr and Spence combined for 13 kills and a .522 attack percentage as the Bronchos cruised past Southwest Baptist 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 for their sixth straight sweep.  UCO improved to 28-2 on the season and 14-2 in the league with two road matches remaining next weekend.

"Our middles really played well this weekend and we came out with two good wins," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We just need to keep working hard at getting better every day we take the court."

Spence hit .429 with seven kills and one error in 14 attacks, while Barr hit .667 with six kills and no errors in nine attempts.  That duo combined for 30 kills in 45 tries with just one miscue – an astounding .644 attack percentage – in weekend wins over Missouri Southern and SBU.

Taylor Bevis had a team-high nine kills and 11 digs, with Ijeoma Njenje adding seven kills and Alexis WashingtonDominique Lipari was all over the court defensively in making 30 digs, while Katy Davis had 37 assists and eight digs.

The first set was tied 1-1 before Davis scored on a dump at the net and followed with a service ace to put UCO in the lead to stay.  The Bearcats stayed close and were within 18-16 before an error and Fulani Petties kill enabled the Bronchos to pull away.

Back-to-back kills by Taylor broke an early 1-1 tie in the second set and UCO was never threatened the rest of the way.  Spence opened the third set with a kill and ace to put the Bronchos on top early and SBU never got close.

UCO wraps up the regular season with two more road matches next week, going to Emporia State Friday and Washburn Saturday.
