Gorillas No Match For UCO

EDMOND (Oct. 4) – A balanced attack led to another overwhelming home win for Central Oklahoma Tuesday night as the No. 10-ranked Bronchos rolled past Pittsburg State.

Six players had four-plus kills and UCO hit .338 while also collecting nine team blocks in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-12 drubbing to stay perfect (8-0) at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos improved to 17-1 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with their 15th sweep of the season.  The Gorillas fell to 2-15 and 0-5.

"It was a little ragged at times, but we did what we needed to do and took care of business," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We used several different combinations and were able to get a lot of players on the court."

Twelve players saw action for UCO and eight of them had at least one kill.  Alexis Washington and Jordan Spence led the way with six each, while Allison Barr and Taylor Bevis had five apiece.

Spence dominated at the net with six assisted blocks and one solo rejection.  Setter Katy Davis handed out 32 assists and Dominique Lipari paced the defense with 13 digs.

The first set was tied 2-2 before the Bronchos ripped off nine straight points behind Mikayla Bangasser's serve to seize an 11-2 lead and PSU got no close than six the rest of the way.

UCO was never tested in the final two sets, jumping out to 7-1 leads in both before coasting in to close out the match.

The Bronchos return to action Friday against league rival Missouri Southern at 6 p.m.
