Bronchos run out of steam, fall to Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Chas Stallard, Clay McKenzie, and Jake Gandara each ran for a touchdown on Saturday against Central Missouri, but the Bronchos offense couldn't keep up the high pace and Central Missouri won 48-28 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bronchos led 14-0 in the first quarter after Stallard and McKenzie scored. UCO led 14-13 at halftime, but Central Missouri's offense never let up in the second half.

The Bronchos tallied 447 total yards on the day, 271 rushing and 176 passing. Stallard finished with 108 yards on 18 carries and completed 15 of 28 passes for 157 yards including a 42-yard score to L'liott Curry in the third quarter. But turnovers plagued the Bronchos once again.

Stallard fumbled early in the game when he was sacked. Central Missouri only needed to go five yards to score. Stallard also threw two interceptions on the day. Central Missouri took one of those 51 yards for the final touchdown of the game.

McKenzie also eclipsed the 100-yard mark. The junior finished with 105 yards on 13 carries including an 18-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Jake Gandara finished with 53 yards on 13 carries. He also had an 18-yard score on the day.

Riley Galyon led the defensive effort for the Bronchos with 10 tackles. Unfortunately for Central Oklahoma, the defense couldn't force a turnover, which hindered the effort in another high-scoring MIAA affair.

The Bronchos are home for the rest of the season. UCO hosts Washburn for Homecoming next Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. before the final game of the season on Nov. 12 against Northeastern State.
