Chas Stallard's five touchdowns leads Bronchos in shootout win over Missouri Southern

EDMOND - Chas Stallard ran for a career-high four touchdowns, threw a passing touchdown, and led the Bronchos on a scoring spree in his first start of the season as Central Oklahoma beat Missouri Southern 63-42 on Saturday at Wantland Stadium.

The Bronchos (2-6) racked up 600 yards of offense as Stallard orchestrated one of the better offensive performances in school history. The junior quarterback carried the ball 21 times for 136 yards with scores of 20, six, five and three. He completed 72 percent of his passes on the day - 13 of 18 - for 138 yards. He connected with Connor Pulley for a 15-yard score in the second quarter as well.

Clay McKenzie scored two more touchdowns for UCO, who travels to Central Missouri next Saturday. McKenzie scored on runs of one, three and 33 to give the junior running back 11 on the season. McKenzie finished with 15 carries for 94 yards.

"We're always going to focus on the run," Nick Bobeck said. "We executed it better today. Chas is different, you know? He's a different kid as far as with the ball in his hands. He executed the game plan very well (today)."

The Bronchos totaled 333 yards on the ground on Saturday. Jake Gandara added 103 yards on 17 carries. For nearly having three, 100-yard rushers, the Bronchos almost had two, 100-yard receivers.

Connor Pulley led the charge with 115 yards on six catches, including the 15-yard touchdown. Josh Crockett added five catches for 98 yards. Crockett also scored, on a 5-yard pass from T.J. Eckert in the second quarter.

Eckert started the first seven games of the season for the Bronchos, and had split time with Stallard in the past four weeks. Stallard got the start on Saturday, but Eckert still played a role.

With UCO ahead 21-0 in the second quarter, Eckert came in. The senior quarterback, and No. 2 on the career passing list at Central, got runs of four and three from Gandara and McKenzie respectively before he connected on a 43-yard strike to Pulley. Eckert hit Crockett over the middle for the 5-yard score that made it 28-0.

Saturday's game was the highest scoring game for the Bronchos since scoring 66 against Central Arkansas in 1955. Central Oklahoma senior kicker Seth Hiddink entered the game with 299 career points, third in school historty. He passed James Hooks with a PAT in the first quarter and Hiddink's nine PATs ties a school record for the most consecutive PATs made in one game.

Hiddink now owns records for the most PATs made in a single game, a single season (52), and a career (149). Hiddink also owns the record for most field goals made (55).

It was a historic day at Wantland Stadium. Pulley is working his way into the record books as well. The senior wide receiver now has 1,618 yards for his career. That's good for 11th all-time.

McKenzie, with 11 rushing touchdowns this season, has 33 for his career. He has 35 total touchdowns when you add his two receiving scores. His 210 career points is seventh on Central Oklahoma's all-time list.
