No. 12 Bronchos Roll Over No. 20 Northwest Missouri

EDMOND (Oct. 1) – Fulani Petties and Taylor Bevis combined for 25 kills and No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma took control early in all three sets en route to a dominating sweep of No. 20-rated Northwest Missouri Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos hit .337 as a team and never trailed in a 25-12, 25-20, 25-12 rout to hand the Bearcats their first defeat of the season. It was the 14th sweep of the year for UCO, which improved to 16-1 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association while dropping NWMSU to 15-1 and 3-1.

Petties and Bevis were the sparkplugs as the hard-hitting duo teamed up for 25 kills in 53 attacks against just three errors.  Petties hit a season-high .440 with 13 kills and two errors in 25 attempts, with Bevis racking up 12 kills and one error in 28 tries.

"I thought we really did a good job running our offense today and came out with a great win against a really good team," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "Fulani and Taylor were on fire and Katy (Davis) found them in the right positions."

Davis compiled 34 assists in running the UCO attack in addition to chipping in nine digs and three kills.  Ijeoma Njenje added six kills, while Dominique Lipari had 17 digs and Bonnie Vernon nine.

Petties had the hot hand early in the opening set with two quick kills to stake the Bronchos to a 4-0 lead and it was 8-1 after an Allison Barr spike at the net.  NWMSU never got closer the rest of the way, with Petties' rocket down the line closing out the lopsided 25-12 win.

Bevis had a pair of kills and an ace in helping UCO grab a 7-2 advantage in the second set and it was 14-7 after another Bevis kill.  The Bearcats rallied to within 17-16, but Davis' dump at the net sparked a 6-1 run that put the set away.

The Bronchos were never tested in the final set, breaking on top 6-1 and cruising in from there to close out the match.

UCO is back in league action Tuesday, hosting Pittsburg State at 7 p.m.
