Bulldogs Blank Bronchos

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Sept. 10) – Central Oklahoma failed to capitalize on several prime scoring chances and dropped a 3-0 decision to intrastate rival Southwestern Oklahoma here Thursday afternoon.

The Bronchos got off 21 shots in the contest on a steamy afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex, but the Bulldogs made 11 saves.  SWOSU rejected eight shots in the second half, including several from point-blank range.

It was the second straight shutout loss for UCO, which fell to 1-2 on the young season in losing to the Bulldogs for just the second time in 19 meetings.

"We had a lot of great scoring chances and just couldn't put the ball in the net," head coach Mike Cook said.  "It's disappointing that we didn't take advantage of all the opportunities we had and we gave up a couple of easy scores."

SWOSU scored twice in a seven-minute span in taking a 2-0 halftime lead, going ahead on a penalty kick at the 30:19 mark and knocking in a shot from close range at 37:19.

UCO was all over the Lady Bulldogs in the first 20 minutes of the second half in trying to get back in the game, but SWOSU kept the ball out of the goal and pushed its lead to 3-0 in the 78th minute.

The Bronchos make their home debut Saturday, hosting near-by rival Southern Nazarene at 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
