Bronchos Roll Past MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 21) – Kaylee Brunson, Ashton Smith and Morgan Heard had five hits apiece as Central Oklahoma continued its offensive dominance with a doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State here Tuesday night.

The Bronchos unleashed a 21-hit attack in an 18-5 first-game run-rule romp that ended after five innings before taking the nightcap 5-1 behind a 13-hit assault.

UCO ran its winning streak to five straight in improving to 37-14 on the year, with the Bronchos now hitting .345 on the season.

"We had another good day at the plate and came out with two good road wins," head coach Cody White said.  "Everybody is contributing and we just want to keep it going."

Brunson, Smith, Heard, Brooke Zukerman and Ashleigh Tramel had three hits each in the first-game rout that saw UCO score four runs in the first inning, eight in the third and six more in the fifth.

Tramel ripped a two-run double to left field in the first to pace the Bronchos to an early 4-0 lead and that became a big 12-0 advantage in the third as Zukerman belted a grand slam, Tramel a two-run homer and Rachel Harper a two-run single.

Run-scoring hits by Heard, Harper, Brunson, Smith and Kourtney Tanner pushed the lead to 18-1 in the fifth before the Mustangs scored four runs in their final at bat to arrange the final margin.

Jessi Walker picked up the pitching win, giving up six hits while striking out three in improving to 11-1.

The nightcap was much closer, but UCO still coasted as Nicole Brady dominated in the circle.  The junior right-hander allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out five in moving to 15-8 on the season.

The Bronchos took the early lead again as Brunson led off with a single and scored one out later on Ally Dziadula's homer to center field.

MSU got its lone run in the bottom of the first, but Brunson's RBI double to right field and Smith's run-scoring single to center pushed Central's lead to 4-1.

It stayed that way until the seventh when Heard's school-record 20th double of the season drove in the final run.

Brunson, Smith, Heard, Dziadula and Bre Davis all had two hits for the Bronchos.

UCO resumes Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday night with a doubleheader at Missouri Southern.
