Dziadula Lifts UCO To Sweep

EDMOND (March 7) – Ally Dziadula's run-scoring triple in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a two-run rally that lifted Central Oklahoma to a 6-5 victory and doubleheader sweep of Northwest Missouri here Saturday afternoon.

The No. 18-ranked Bronchos prevailed in a wild 16-13 slugfest in the opener before pulling out the last-inning second-game comeback in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener for both teams.

UCO improved to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the league.  The Bronchos return to action at noon Sunday to host Missouri Western for another conference twinbill.

"We didn't play our best, but we got two wins and that was the main thing," head coach Cody White said.  "We definitely swung the bats well and a bunch of girls came through in some key situations for us."

UCO trailed 5-4 going into its final at bat in the nightcap and senior speedster Kaylee Brunson started the comeback when she led off with an infield single and raced around to third on an error.

Shelby Carel tied it with an RBI single to center field and Dziadula quickly ended it when she roped a triple to the right-center field gap that easily scored Carel.

Dziadula went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead a 12-hit attack, while Brunson, Carel and Brooke Zukerman had two hits apiece.  Jessi Walker went the distance in the circle to earn the pitching win.

Zukerman's two-run home run in the bottom of the first gave the Bronchos a quick 2-0 lead, but NWMSU came back to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth.

UCO tied it on Ashleigh Tramel's solo shot in the bottom of that frame and it stayed 4-4 until the Bearcats scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to set the stage for Dziadula's game-winner.

The two teams combined for 29 runs and 31 hits in the opener that saw NWMSU scored three runs in the top of the first only to see the Bronchos answer with four in their initial at bat.

It was deadlocked 3-3 going into the bottom of the third when UCO pushed across 10 runs on just four hits.  Three hit batters and a walk helped, while the Bronchos came up with a three-run homer by Emily Ditmore, a three-run double by Tramel and a two-run triple by Brunson in opening up a 14-4 lead.

The Bearcats came back with five runs in the fourth to get within 14-9 and it was a 16-9 lead in the seventh when NWMSU scored four more times in its final at bat to get close before UCO finally closed it out.

Dziadula and Zukerman had three hits each, with Morgan Heard and Ditmore adding two apiece.  Ditmore also finished with five RBI.
