Box Score

EMPORIA, Kan. (Feb. 14) –
Central Oklahoma's spirited second-half rally fell short and No.9-ranked Emporia State pulled away at the free throw line down the stretch to down the Bronchos 80-67 here Saturday afternoon.

UCO trimmed a 14-point second-half deficit to two with 8:42 remaining and was still within five with 3:37 left, but the Lady Hornets scored seven points at the foul line during an 11-2 run over the next two minutes to put the game away.

The Bronchos fell to 15-10 on the season and 8-8 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play in the physical contest that saw the teams combine for 46 fouls and 58 free throws.  ESU improved to 19-4 and 12-4.

"I thought we fought hard and did a great job coming back like we did," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We used a lot of energy doing that and ran out of gas a little bit at the end."

Julia Mason led UCO with 14 points and two blocked shots, while Kylie Mayes added 13 points.  Olivia Mason had 11 points, a team-high seven rebounds and four assists, with Chelsea Robinson chipping in nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

J. Mason started the run with a follow shot, Mayes hit a five-foot turnaround jumper and Jordan Ward a driving layup before J. Mason's 15-footer pulled UCO within 48-42 at the 11:54 mark.

It was still a five-point game at 65-60 on Robinson's three-point play with 3:37 left to play, but ESU scored the next six points – four at the line – to go up 71-60 and the Bronchos couldn't answer back.
