ST. PAUL, Minn. (Dec. 4) –
Top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul was simply too much for Central Oklahoma in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional semifinals here Friday night.

The seven-time national champion Golden Bears ended UCO's season with a sweep, taking a hard-fought 25-19 first-set win before cruising to 25-11, 25-8 victories in the final two in advancing to Saturday's finals against Wayne State.

The Bronchos, who captured the regular-season Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship in earning its first national tournament bid since 2007, ended one of the best seasons in school history at 31-5.

"It's a tough way to end the season, but I couldn't be more proud of this team and everything we accomplished," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We couldn't get anything going tonight and obviously Concordia had a lot to do with that.

"This group of girls did a great job of showing what kind of program we're building here at UCO and tonight doesn't diminish that."

The Bronchos, who had a .306 attack percentage in Thursday's first-round sweep of Nebraska-Kearney, hit a season-low .091 against CSP with 19 errors in 99 attacks with just 28 kills.

The Golden Bears hit a sizzling .518 with 45 kills and just two miscues in 83 attempts.  UCO also didn't have a block for the first time this season.

Barbara Jackson had a team-high kills to lead the Bronchos, while Allison Barr and Taylor Bevis had five each.  Bonnie Vernon contributed nine digs.

The first set was competitive from the outset, with UCO overcoming an early 5-2 deficit to tie it at 9-all on a Jordan Spence kill before a rare CSP error gave the Bronchos their first lead at 10-9.

The Golden Bears came back with four straight points to go up 13-10, with UCO getting kills from Spence and Bevis in pulling even at 13-all.  CSP scored the next two points to go ahead for good.

Bevis' kill to open the second set gave the Bronchos a brief 1-0 lead, with the Golden Bears responded with a 6-0 run to seize quick control.  CSP never trailed in the third set after jumping on top 3-0.

It was the final match for senior standouts Jackson and Whitney Gifford.
